History of the Bob Hill
Burial Site
Section 6 - Township 24 - Range 17
This was the site of a private family plot that was located in the
northwestern most part of Pasco County near the Hernando/ Pasco county
line. The property, which was then in Hernando County, was known as Bob
Hill Springs, which was named after the owner Robert Madison Hill.
Robert served in the Civil War as a confederate soldier in Co. C Reg. 9
of the 9th FL Infantry. Roberts service led him to action in the Battle
of Olustee and later he was involved in major battles with General
Robert E. Lee in Virginia. After his service Robert came to Hernando
County where he began improving the property and eventually built a
home. Robert applied for homestead but before the finalization of the
paperwork on Dec. 14, 1886 he passed away leaving his wife Catherine
and a one year old son behind. Catherine returned to Chipco to live the
rest of her life. She passed away on April 27, 1898 and was interred at
Geiger Cemetery.
It is believed that there were six or eight other members of the Hill
family buried at this site although their names were not known at the
time of this posting. It is also possible that this family cemetery has
been relocated although it can't be confirmed at this time. It is known
that Robert Madison Hill was re-interred at the Geiger Cemetery next to
his wife. There are 15 other members of the Hill family interned at the
Geiger Cemetery but it is not known at this time if those that were at
the Hill Family Cemetery now reside at the Geiger Cemetery.
