Richard Burrell WallerRichard Burrell Waller was born on July 5, 1842 in Williamson, Tennessee to parents John G. Waller and Elizabeth Moore Waller.  In January of 1855 the Waller family moved to Florida where they settled in Waukeena in Jefferson County Florida.

At the age of 19 years old, in May of 1861, Richard enlisted with the 2nd Florida Infantry.  Waller was mustered into Company D of the 2nd Florida Infantry also known as the Leon Rifles, which was under the command of Capt. T.V. Brevard.  Throughout the war Waller's company was engaged in some of the most historic battle of the Civil War, however he was never wounded and was among the fortunate to return home.  At the close of the war Waller was discharged with his company on April 9, 1865 at the Appomattox Court House in Virginia.

After the war Waller returned to Florida where on February 16, 1868 he would marry to Carrie Anderson in Waukeena.  Richard and Carrie remained in Waukeena for many years.

In ca. 1885 Richard decided to move farther south and he settled on 120 acres in a small community of New Hope in Hernando/ Citrus County.  On December 21, 1890 Waller received full title and deed to his homestead being located in Section 10, Township 21, Range 20.  It was also sometime ca. 1890 that Richard married to Mary Caroline Pemberton, however this marriage was short.  On September 5, 1893 Richard married to Lillian H. Peters Miley, the marriage was performed in Citrus County by Rev. J.R. Mayes.

Waller became and active in his community and soon became a member of Confederate Veteran Camp No. 148 in Inverness.  By 1909 Waller had acquired and additional 10 acres and his farm now totaled 130 acres, here he raised cattle and hogs while he and his wife, Lillian, began to raise a family.  By 1910 Richard and Lillian had 8 children respectively; Rillie, Burrell, Orbie, Raymond, Doris, Aubry, Albert and Willie Miley, step-daughter to Richard.

Richard B. Waller dies on December 10, 1930 while still living in New Hope, Citrus County.
